Birding: Northern Cardinal

Northern Cardinal

The male Northern Cardinal is one of the most recognizable birds. The Northern Cardinal is a common visitor to backyards and to feeders. If you want to attract these beautiful birds to your feeder be sure to have it stocked with sunflower seeds.

juvenile male Cardinal

This is a male juvenile getting his adult feathers. Juveniles resemble the female, have no black mask, and have a dull brown bill.

Female Cardinal

The female Cardinal is a dull brown with a red crest and red wing and tail feathers.

You can find Cardinals year-round in the Southern Western, the Midwest and Eastern portion of the United States.
