Blue Flowers for the Garden

Blue is one of my favorite colors and is a gorgeous color that compliments a garden. Here is a list of blue flowers you can grow in your garden. I have included a quick description, USDA Zones, and a link to where to buy them.


Grow a Blue Garden: Hibiscus Rose of Sharon
 Rose of Sharon - Azzuri Satin
In the Hibiscus family it blooms summer through fall. It needs full sun and grows in USDA Zones 5-8. Available through Nature Hills Nursery . 

Grow A Blue Garden: Blue Chinese Wisteria
 Blue Chinese Wisteria
Trained to be a tree this will no doubt turn heads. Wisteria is easy to grow, prefers full sun, flowers early Spring to early Fall, thrives in USDA Zone 5-9. Available through Nature Hills Nursery.

Grow A Blue Garden: Clemantis Ice Blue
 Clematis - Ice Blue
The clematis is a gorgeous and interesting vine. Ice Blue has huge blooms May, June, and September. Does great in pots and needs a support to climb. Clematis roots need shade but the top needs full sun. USDA Zone 4-9. Available through Nature Hills Nursery.

Another fabulous blue Clematis that will add interest to you garden. Blooms June through September, very fragrant, weaving vine, grows in USDA Zone 3-9. Available through Nature Hills Nursery.

Grow a Blue Garden: Cornflower Blue Boy
 Cornflower - Blue Boy
Blue Boy is an annual and blooms from summer to first frost. Needs full sun and grows in all USDA Zones. Cut wilted blooms to promote new blooms. It will reseed itself or harvest seeds for next season. Seeds available through Burpee Gardening.

 Delphinium - Fantasia Mixed Colors
Wouldn't these make a beautiful border? This perennial thrives in full sun to partial shade and blooms in the spring. USDA Zone 3-7. Available through Burpee Gardening.

Grow a Blue Garden: Geranium Rozanne
 Geranium - Rozanne
This geranium is perfect for every gardener. It is a re-bloomer, attracts bees and butterflies, does well in the garden or in containers. Plant where it will receive the morning sun and partial shade in the afternoon. USDA Zone: 5-8. Available through Nature Hills Nursery

Grow a Blue Garden: Hydrangea Nikko Blue
 Hydrangea - Nikko Blue
A perennial staple in every Southern garden. Beautiful big full blooms in July and August, does best in shade, acidic soil keeps flowers blue. USDA Zone 5-9. Available through Burpee Gardening.

Grow a Blue Garden: Stokes Aster
Stokes Aster - Peachies Pick
Produces large blue flowers in the middle of summer. Does well with morning shade and full sun in the afternoon. A unique Aster that would also be beautiful in a fresh floral arrangement. USDA Zone 5-9
