Birding: Blue Jay

blue jay
The Blue Jay is a common songbird to backyard feeders in the Midwest to Eastern part of the United States. The Blue Jay is easy to spot due to his large size and bright blue color. The male and female are similar and
the only way to tell them apart is to watch their mating/nesting behavior. Attract them to your feeder with acorns, corn, sunflower seeds, peanuts and suet. They prefer platform feeders or you can just throw the food on the ground.
